Zambia is one of Africa’s wildest and most unspoilt safari destinations, offering an authentic safari filled with unforgettable animal encounters. The LUANGWA VALLEY, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. It covers an area of over 9000 sq. km. through which the meandering Luangwa River runs. The ox bow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game - including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo - and over 450 species of birds. Walking safaris were also pioneered here – these offer the ultimate wilderness experience whilst the Lower Zambezi is home to boat and canoe safaris and awesome elephants One cannot forget the majestic Victoria Falls – no trip would be complete without seeing them.
Luangwa National Park is reached by a 1 hour 30 minute flight with Proflight from Lusaka. Lusaka can be reached by flying into Johannesburg and on arrival you will be met by a local representative and helped to connect with your flight to Mfuwe. On arrival at Mfuwe you will be met and transferred to the lodge of your choice – we would recommend staying at three different lodges so that you can enjoy the whole of the park.
Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons – the rainy season is from November to March. April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the dryer months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, which is a good time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rainy season.
