Argentina is a vast country with a diversity of climate and landscape, from the ice fields of Patagonia, to the Lake District and its stunning lakes and lush scenery, to the tropical forests around the frenzied and spectacular Iguazú Falls, which fascinate and inspire any visitor. For a more urban adventure, cosmopolitan cities offer the chance to try to tango and eat some of the world’s best steak. To discover a taste of true Argentina you can choose to stay at an estancia, a working ranch, from which you can explore the surrounding countryside on foot or horseback and see the gauchos at work. Argentina’s distinct regions have climates all of their own. Buenos Aires is hot between November and April, and mild in winter. The Lake District in spring and autumn is fresher than during the height of summer. Part of Patagonia’s beauty is its unpredictable weather, and you should be prepared to experience four seasons in one day.
Buenos Aires
Often referred to as the ‘Paris of the South’ Buenos Aires is the perfect place to start a tour of Argentina. With open air cafés, museums and art galleries, this bustling city is full of Latin flair. Visit one of the city's famous steakhouses, knows as parrillas, for the finest beef on earth. Stroll among the colourful houses of the Caminito, explore San Telmo and visit the historic indoor market and at night live it up in Palermo where you will can sample find the most exquisite cocktails. Tango shows and tango classes can be arranged during your stay in Buenos Aires.
Patagonia
Located in Argentina and Chile, Patagonia comprises of the Andes Mountains to the west and south, the central Plateau and to the east the Atlantic Ocean, populated by whales, penguins and dolphins. The high rainfall against the western Andes and the low sea surface temperatures offshore have created ice-fields and glaciers; the largest ice-fields in the Southern Hemisphere outside of Antarctica.
San Carlos de Bariloche
Bariloche, located two hours by plane from Buenos Aires, is an all-season destination with summer sports such as trekking, climbing, horse riding and mountain biking drawing visitors to the region as much as the winter ski season does. The Argentinian Lake District, which surrounds the town, is beautiful.
Córdoba
Córdoba is the second most important city in Argentina and is located in a vast valley surrounded by mountains that create a unique microclimate.
Iguazú Falls
Situated on the Argentinian/Brazilian boarder, the Iguazú Falls span almost two miles and are 269 feet high, making them higher than Niagara Falls. On the Argentinian side of the falls you can tour the Iguazú National Park with its jungle trails, bird watching, wildlife, flora and fauna. The best time to see Iguazú Falls is in the spring and autumn.
