  • Elewana Elsa's Kopje Meru
  • Ol Malo Lodge
  • Ngare Serian
  • Peponi Hotel

UK summer is one of the best times to visit Kenya  (from July to September) as this is the main dry season, which also coincides with the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra.

During the rainy season you will find fewer visitors and you can admire the lush, emerald vegetation.

November / December in particular is a great time to travel to Kenya, since the rains are short and you may have the chance to see newborn animals and migratory bird species. Only the peak of the ‘long rains’ in March and April are very wet and this is when some of the camps may close for the season.

Tented safari

A true 'Out Of Africa' experience, stay in a romantic and beautifully-styled tented camp in the heart of the bush.

Activities

As well as game drives in 4x4 vehicles, expect to enjoy activities such as camel-trekking, mountain biking, horse-riding, fishing, guided bush walks, and cultural visits to Samburu villages.

Spectacular scenery

Glimpse the true heart of Africa - the Great Rift Valley, scenic Mount Kenya, Laikipia plateau and the sparkling Indian Ocean.

Wildlife sightings

Wildlife is prolific. Look for the Big 5 (rhino, buffalo, elephant, leopard and lion) as well as eland, rare Beisa oryx , gerenuk, greater kudu, water buck, giraffe, zebras, and various antelope.

Resting in the magnificent Great Rift Valley and presided over by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Kenya is characterised by hauntingly beautiful natural landscapes of forested hills, patchwork farms, wooded savannah and vast forests brimming with an extraordinary abundance of wildlife.

Day 1 - Nairobi National Park

Arrive Nairobi and transfer by road to your hotel (approx 45 mins).

The Emakoko is a family owned and managed lodge, situated on 15 acres of land bordering Nairobi National Park, one of the few places in Kenya where you are likely to see the endangered rhino. This twenty-bed luxury lodge is artfully built into the side of a valley on the Mbagathi River, which borders the Park. Entrance to it is through the park which means that your African safari starts very soon after leaving the airport!

Day 2 - Meru National Park

Travel by road to Nairobi's domestic airport, Wilson airport, for your flight to Kinna Airstrip in Meru. On arrival in Meru, transfer by road with game viewing en route (approx. 45 mins) to Elsa's Kopje. Unashamedly romantic and beautifully styled, Elsa’s Kopje is sculpted into Mughwango Hill, above the site of George Adamson’s original bush camp where he raised and released orphan lions, long before conservation became fashionable. It was here that George and Joy Adamson released their lioness Elsa before writing 'Born Free' about her life. Each cottage is crafted around the rocks, with a large bedroom, open sitting room, veranda and spacious bathroom, each with breathtaking views.

From the infinity pool outside the main dining area and bar, guests can look out over the Meru plains for hundreds of miles, with 360 degree views ranging from Mount Kenya to Nyambeni Hills and the vast Park with its river valleys, forests and plains below. Meru is part of a Conservation Area comprising more than 400 square kilometres. It is interspersed by at least four rivers, including Tana River, Kenya’s longest. There is also a secure and well managed rhino sanctuary. Keep your eyes peeling for the prolific wildlife from plains, forest and riverine, and in a 2 nights’ stay you would be unlucky not to see all of the Big 5.

Day 3 - Meru National Park

Situated east of Meru, Meru National Park is wild and beautiful featuring diverse scenery with lush swamplands, thick jungle, vast savannah, and no less than thirteen rivers. Game includes some of the less regularly sighted animals like oryx, lesser kudu, duiker, dik-dik and over 300 species of birds have been recorded. Visitors can soak up the spectacular views of Mount Kenya, spot game along the Tana River and view the cascading Adamson’s Falls.

Day 4-6 - Loisaba Conservancy

Transfer back to Kinna Airstrip to connect with your private charter flight to the Ol Maro Airstrip (NB: Luggage is limited and must be in soft-sided bags). On arrival your transfer to the lodge takes approx 5 mins. Ol Malo is a privately-owned game sanctuary on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in Kenya's wild and beautiful North Eastern Province - 5000 acres of spectacular bush country overlooked by Mount Kenya.

Set in Northern Laikipia in Kenya, East Africa, Loisaba Conservancy stretches over 20.000 hectares of magnificent African landscape. The terrain is traversed by two permanent rivers and abundant springs which make it a perfect habitat to sustain a myriad of wildlife. It is known as a world-class ecotourism destination offering a variety of unique opportunities for visitors looking to immerse themselves in nature. Spot majestic elephants journeying along the elephant migration corridor, stay overnight in a tented camp under the stars, soak up the incredible views and enjoy a thrilling game safari. Other popular activities include camel-trekking, mountain biking, horse-riding, fishing, guided bush walks, and cultural visits to Samburu villages.

Day 7-9 - Mara North Conservancy

In this majestic setting - on a rock escarpment on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau, bordering the tribal heartlands of the nomadic Samburu people – the Francombe family, and their Samburu neighbours, have created a home for themselves, and a dream destination for the privileged few who seek a glimpse into the true heart of Africa. Wildlife is prolific, and includes four of the Big 5 (buffalo, elephant, leopard and lion) as well as frequent sightings of eland, Beisa oryx (rare elsewhere), gerenuk, greater kudu, water buck, giraffe, zebras, and various antelope; there are more leopard in Laikipia than anywhere else on Earth, and there is even a leopard hide on the property. Cheetah, striped hyena, and even wild dog are often seen.

Day 10-12 - Lamu Island

Forming part of the Lamu Archipelago along Kenya’s spectacular coastline, Lamu Island is a peaceful tropical island where life moves slowly. This charming island is mostly blanketed in sand dunes, mango trees and palm groves. Lamu Old Town is one of the best-preserved and oldest Swahili settlements in East Africa featuring many influences from Omani Arabs, Turkish and Portuguese traders, who all left their mark.

You will stay at family run Peponi Hotel, which was opened in 1967 and still retains much of the character and charm that it had then. Small and personal, it is the perfect rest after a safari or a hide away holiday from modern life.
