Overview
Baja’s Isla Espiritu Santo is a kayak wonderland in the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) near La Paz, Mexico. The island is a fabulous wilderness of deserted beaches, protected coves, and rugged cliffs. Kayak along this spectacular and varied coastline, camp on pristine beaches, snorkel in the blue waters, swim with sea lion pups, and bask in the warm Mexican sunshine.
Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 | Travel to La Paz / Arrival
Arrive in La Paz; check into your hotel.
9:00 p.m. pre-trip briefing: meet guides in the lobby of your hotel.
Day 2 |
Pick up at your hotel after breakfast and van transfer to harbour.
Travel by high-speed boat from La Paz to Isla Espiritu Santo.
Introduction to kayaking and gear; safety session.
First day kayaking: discover spectacular volcanic cliffs, arrive at the first of many beautiful beaches, first snorkel of the trip, and set up camp.
Day 3 |
Continue paddling up the side of the island, snorkel on a coral reef, explore a hidden inland lagoon, or hike up cliffs to view three off-shore islands. Camp on a new beach.
Day 4 |
Continue north to the end of the island and stop for a fresh-water shower at a well.
Hike up a canyon to find fascinating rock formations.
At Isla Partida, set up a 2-day camp in spectacular Ensenada Grande Bay.
Day 5 |
Lay-over day
Morning re-supply by motorboat: fresh provisions, baked goods, and a delicious dinner.
Travel by motorboat to a magnificent sea lion colony. Swim with the sea lion pups, and snorkel among thousands of colourful tropical fish.
Day 6 |
Paddle around the top of the island. Reach the east coast (weather permitting) - by towering cliffs with Ospreys circling, toward the passage between Isla Partida and Espiritu Santo.
Camp in the Partida - an unbelievably-beautiful setting, with high cliffs that enclose the bay and a natural, turquoise swimming pool.
Day 7 |
This remarkable paddle offers cliffs that rise to a height of 2000 feet, superb colours, two natural caves to explore, and impressive stack rocks. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our favourite campsite - a magnificent 2-mile stretch of sweeping, white sand - for the last night of camping.
Day 8 |
Final paddle to complete the circumnavigation.
Meet motorboat for transfer to La Paz; arrive late afternoon.
Check into your hotel for showers; have a farewell dinner with the group in downtown La Paz.
Day 9 | Departure / Travel Home
